Two Muslim men were shot and injured by a white man on their way to Ramadan overnight prayers around 2 a.m. that night. The two men, one of whom has been identified as 22-year-old Metropolitan State University student Hussein Gelle, were part of a group of five who were dressed in traditional Muslim prayer robes and were headed to the Abubakar As-Saddique Islamic Center for prayer when they were confronted by the gunman, who began making disparaging comments about Muslims. The man then pulled out a gun, and as the car began driving away, fired about seven shots in the back of the car, wounding two of the men in the leg. Both men are recovering from their injuries, and Minneapolis Police are investigating the shooting as a hate crime.
